Where can we find God.png

WHERE CAN WE FIND GOD?

Father Jacob Lindle reflects on the readings of the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time. In our first reading, Elijah meets God not in the strong wind, not in the earthquake, and not in the fire. He meets Him, instead, in the tiny whispering sound of a small voice. We, too, must find God's voice in the poorest and most vulnerable, the child.

An extreme amendment is on the Ohio ballot in November that threatens the health and safety of women, the rights of parents and the lives of pre-born babies up to 9 months. Vote no November 7th.

Rorate Mass: In honor of Our Lady

A Rorate Mass is an Advent tradition of celebrating Mass in honor of Our Lady entirely by candlelight. As Mass progresses, the first light of dawn appears near the time of the consecration, reminding us that Jesus, come into our midst in the Eucharist, is the light that illumines the darkness of the world.

The first words, in Latin, of the opening antiphon are "Rorate caeli" (hence the title "Rorate Mass"), and are based on a verse from the book of Isaiah: "Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the just: let the earth be opened and bud forth a Savior."

GIVING TUESDAY NOVEMBER 29th

Many of you have been so generous in your donations on Giving Tuesday over the last few years. However, the Archdiocese has decided not to provide the opportunity for Giving Tuesday this year, as they don't have the staff to operate their part of the program.

There will not be a Giving Tuesday Opportunity this year for any of our NE Family 1 parishes. Your donations throughout the year, and Giving Tuesday, have been greatly appreciated! We Realize that some of you have taken this opportunity to add to your usual giving, and some have found enticing the fact that Giving Tuesday donations were exempt from the Archdiocese assessment. Perhaps you have even held back in your regular giving as you awaited the annual opportunity to make the majority of your donation Assessment-free. Unfortunately, this year that will not be an option. Thank you for your support.

Donations will not be exempt from the Archdiocese assessment.

Box of Joy!

Thursday, November 10th, 2022

Deadline to return Boxes of Joy

This year our parish will, again, be participating in the Box of Joy ministry, a Christmas gift outreach organized by local Catholic schools, parishes, and groups nationwide. By packing Boxes of Joy with toys and other gifts, your family will bless a child suffering from extreme poverty by sharing the joy of Christmas and planting seeds of hope through the Gospel. We have set a goal to bless 110 impoverished children in Latin America!

Anyone interested can take home as many empty Boxes of Joy and one brochure. Fill out the brochure and be sure to include the $9/box fee to transport each Box of Joy from our community to Latin America. Checks should be written out to Cross Catholic Outreach! This year if you fill multiple boxes you only have to fill out ONE envelope and include ONE check written out for all your $9 fees. (example: if you fill 6 Boxes of Joy, fill out one envelope and include $54 ($9 x 6) for shipping. Another option is to pay the $9 fee per box online at boxofjoy.org/donate.

You will choose the gender and age range of the child you want to bless. Have fun on your family shopping spree to personally select the items you feel a special boy or girl would really like! Please see the gift ideas on the display board or in the brochure. Be sure to pay attention to the items that are not allowed to be shipped internationally.

The deadline for turning in Boxes of Joy will be THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2022. We encourage every family to pack a Box of Joy! For more information, please contact the office or check out boxofjoy.org.

St. Mary's Church in Urbana presents The Search Series

“Our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you.” -St. Augustine

The Search is an award-winning video-based series from the Augustine Institute hosted by Chris Stefanick that explores the fundamental questions and mysteries of what it means to be a human person. The production is beautiful; the content is compelling; and it's for everyone. If your faith is already solid, The Search will help you to deepen it. If you're feeling unsure, it's for you too. If you're worried about your kids or grandkids, it's a great series for you to share with them by bringing them along.

The Search features scientists, artists, philosophers, and other people from all walks of life proclaiming how their searches for meaning in life led them to Jesus and the Gospel. The Search proclaims the Gospel in words that modern ears are ready to hear and images that modern eyes can't help but see and remember.

The kick-off is Wednesday, October 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the undercroft of St. Mary's Church in Urbana, and we will meet for seven consecutive Wednesday nights.

All are welcome to attend.

Eucharistic Procession and Family Fun Day!

Sunday, October 2nd, 2022 at 4:00 PM

Sunday, October 2nd is the St Mary of the Woods to Our Lady of Fatima Shrine annual Eucharistic Procession and Family Fun Day!

Procession begins at the St Mary of the Woods church at 4 pm, and travels 0.8 miles to the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine. Once there, we have free food, games, activities for kids, and music at the shrine following the procession.

The American Society of Ephesus has generously provided a grant to cover all expenses for the Family Fun Day and to purchase a canopy from Italy for the Eucharistic procession. A canopy is required to cover the Eucharist for an outside procession.

Eucharistic processions are a powerful way to witness to our faith in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. If Christ is truly present in the Eucharist, then why would we not process through the streets with Our Lord? There are tremendous graces that flow from a Eucharistic procession. In Scripture, we hear that great crowds gathered around Christ when He entered towns, and "power went forth" from Him (Mk 5:30). Imagine how many graces will come forth from Our Lord for the people of Russell's Point!

If you have never been part of a Eucharistic procession, it is an exciting way to invigorate your faith and to witness outside the walls of the church. Now is your chance—join us with your family and friends!

Shuttles will be going from the SMOW church to the shrine continuously from 3:45 pm to 7:45 pm. Please park at the SMOW church, even if you do not plan on participating in the procession, as parking is very limited at the shrine.

In case of rain, Fun Day will be held in the Church Hall.

Parish-Wide Consecration 2022

Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary.

Renew your consecration, or participate for the first time.

Schedule:
Tuesdays, 7:00 PM at St. Pat's May 3rd - 31st
Wednesdays, 7:00 PM at SMOW May 4th - June 1st
Feel free to alternate locations. Attendance at every session is not required.

Materials:
Free copies of "33 Days to Morning Glory" are available.

Use "33 Days to Morning Glory" again, or try a different option.

"Total Consecration Through the Mysteries of the Rosary"

A wonderful book! To do it optimally, you'd need a half hour or so that you wanted to dedicate to praying through the meditations well. Also, it takes a few days longer, so you'd want to start 5 full weeks before consecration day.

"St. Louis de Montfort's Version--The Original!"

Nothing wrong with this version, either--it's the first! St. Louis de Montfort's version is heavy on recited prayer, so it would be a different approach than "33 Days". But it is tried and true, and loved by many.
